Really

Friday night on the way to the house from work an odd thing happened.  I got pulled over my a motorcycle cop just a few blocks form my house.  Odd for two reasons.  The first, I was doing absolutely nothing wrong.  The second, I haven't been pulled over for more than two decades.

I was headed West and he passed going East, u-turned and he and his mighty two wheeler fell in two cars behind me.  As I waited for the stop light his "pull your ass over" lights came on.  As we moved west car two pulled over, car three pulled over and next I know scooter boy is pulling me over.

"I noticed you didn't have you seat belt on." He says.

I must have looked incredulous and even more so when he notices I do have my seat belt on and says "Did you just put it on?"

"No.  I always wear my seat belt."  I reply.

His reply.  "Are you lying to me?"

Really?  Really is that the best you can do?  Are you lying to me?  What was I to do immediately cave and confess all my sins?

Taking my no answer for truth he walked off without even a second look.

For some reason the whole thing left me angry.  I'm not sure why.  Perhaps the futility of being faced with a force that can, could and will do whatever it wants no matter how much kicking and screaming you are want to do.  Sounds an awful lot like my anger against my disease.

Really
